Instructions for data requests from third parties
Instructions for data requests from third parties

Data may be disclosed to third parties who request it from the Ornitho.it Mandate. Data disclosure is permitted only for non-commercial purposes and for scientific research and/or conservation purposes. Data may not be requested as part of professional or consulting assignments. Requests relating to topics covered by specific projects promoted under the Ornitho.it Mandate and not yet completed at the time of the request are not eligible.

Only the unprotected data of platform members who have expressed the option to share it, as of the date the request is approved by the Ornitho.it Mandate, may be disclosed (Art. 5.1 of the Regulations. https://www.ornitho.it/index.php?m_id=20003).

This data can be provided in aggregate form (presence/absence by year and any atlas code on a grid no smaller than 10x10 km). The provision of unprotected data in other formats (e.g., point-by-point) and grids (e.g., 5x5 km or smaller), and possibly protected data for species with limited publication (always in aggregate form on a 20x20 km scale), must be justified at the time of the request and the research objectives and methods must be detailed. For technical reasons, only data up to December 31 of the year preceding the request can be provided, unless otherwise specified.

To request authorization to use data uploaded to the Ornitho.it platform, please send your request by email to mandato_ornitho@googlegroups.com and complete the Google form (https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1IhH0_cU8H8Fpk4pxluRk0PxPnrudMGUb2rWE_2NEMeo/edit) in full, including precise information, starting with a detailed summary of the research project (purpose, objectives, and completion timeline). Other requests submitted via short-form or other channels will not be considered.

Upon receipt of the request, the ornitho.it Mandate will evaluate its compliance with the above criteria and reserves the right to request further information. Priority will be given to: a) the applicant's previous participation in the Ornitho.it platform with regular data submission; b) the applicant's willingness to share any data in his or her possession by uploading it to the Ornitho.it platform.

No exclusivity is envisaged regarding the requested data or research topics. The data may not be used for research other than that for which the request was submitted, nor may it be disclosed to third parties. The applicant is required to provide details of any scientific publications resulting from the use of the data to mandato_ornitho@googlegroups.com.

The list of publications will be posted in a dedicated section of the Ornitho.it portal. The applicant is also required to appropriately acknowledge Ornitho.it's contribution in the publications resulting from data analysis (Materials and Methods and Acknowledgements sections). Before submitting the data, the applicant will be required to sign a contract for the use of the data extracted from the Ornitho.it database. This contract, in the form of a private agreement, certifies the veracity of the statements made and formally commits to comply with the conditions outlined above and detailed in the Regulations.
